Do you dress in your House colors? Do you take every Harry Potter personality quiz that pops up in your newsfeed? Do you watch every marathon on ABC Family? Is it your dream vacation to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios? For all you Potterheads out there, here are three of the best ways to enjoy Hogwarts students’ favorite drink: butterbeer. Whether you prefer the original, a frozen twist, or an alcoholic version, there’s a butterbeer for everyone.

Classic Butterbeer Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 (2 liter) bottle of cream soda, chilled
  • 2 Tablespoons of butter extract
  • 3 teaspoons of rum extract, divided
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 (7 oz.) jar of marshmallow cream

Directions:
For the soda:
Pour butter extract and two teaspoons of rum extract into the bottle of cream soda. Return lid to soda, then holding the bottle horizontally, twist and rotate bottle gently to evenly distribute flavorings. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
For the marshmallow cream topping:
In the bowl of an electric stand mixer, whip the cream on high speed until it begins to thicken slightly and begins to form slight peaks.
Add marshmallow cream and remaining 1 teaspoon of rum extract. Continue to whip until well blended and smooth.
To serve, pour soda into mugs and spoon marshmallow cream topping over top.

Frozen Butterbeer Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 (2 liter) bottles of cream soda
  • 1 (16 oz) container of whipping cream
  • 1 (12 oz) jar of butterscotch ice cream topping

Directions:
Start with one of the 2 liters of cream soda and freeze small portions of it in plastic cups. You could use ice cube trays as well, whatever you have. Freeze the soda for a few hours, or overnight. Once frozen or semi-frozen, take the cups out of the freezer.
Whip up the whipped cream. Add a few tablespoons of the butterscotch topping to flavor the whipped cream as you whip. Do not over whip the cream. It should look and feel light, not thick and heavy.
Blend the frozen cream soda with some of the cream soda that is not frozen in a blender. Blend until an icy or slushie type texture. Add more of the butterscotch topping into the blended cream soda while you blend.
To serve, pour the blended mixture into a cup and top with the butterscotch flavored whip cream.

Alcoholic Butterbeer Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. of butterscotch Schnapps, depending on how sweet you want it
  • 2 oz. of whipped cream flavored vodka
  • 6 oz. of cream soda
  • 1 large spoonful of marshmallow fluff + a splash of butterscotch Schnapps

Directions:
In a tumbler, mix together the ice, schnapps, vodka, and cream soda. Strain into a chilled clear pint glass.
In a small container, use a fork to whip together marshmallow fluff and a splash of Schnapps (a dab of cream soda also helps break it down really well) — keep whipping until liquid and easily pourable (2-3 minutes).
Pour on top of butterbeer as the “head.” Enjoy!
