Celebrity Flat Tire Hoax Spreads

So the other day, as I was driving to work, I heard a story on the local rock station about how Comedian Jim Carrey had gotten a flat tire near my town and was just so impressed by how friendly people were. Now, I live in Nashville, which in case you’re unfamiliar with it, is a quarantine zone that was created in 2012 to trap all of the nation’s aspiring country musicians in one place. Not a terrible place to live if you like your hipsters with cowboy hats instead of fedoras, and we do have that god-awful ABC show I refuse to watch, so it’s not inconceivable that Jim Carrey would stop by.

However, this wasn’t even about Nashville, it was Murfreesboro, which is an even smaller city 30 minutes south that a bunch of people moved to when all those rich kids with songwriting degrees and trust funds moved took over downtown and drove up the cost of rent.
Again, not a bad place at all, but I can’t imagine why Jim Carrey would have been “just passing” through. So, I went to do some research and apparently, this is not an isolated phenomenon.
Instead, it seems to be the work of some shady, underhanded entrepreneurs seeking to drive up traffic to their sites with fake headlines.

Which, of course, means that the poor saps at the local indie radio station were taken in by a hoax. It happens to everybody. They’ve since issued a retraction after being mocked on social media.
So what do you guys think? Has anyone you know fallen for an obvious hoax? Let us know in the comments.
