The holidays are great to spend time with the family, and there’s nothing like a night in to watch your favorite holiday movie. You just cannot beat snuggling up with popcorn, a cozy blanket, and a holiday classic! Keep reading this carefully chosen list that has options for every age, whether you are in the mood for the oldies but goodies, or new favorites!
1. Home Alone
What would the holidays be without watching Home Alone? This holiday classic is everyone’s favorite, and is fun for both families and friends to get together and watch. Watch a young Macaulay Culkin take control of his house and save Christmas from people who try to break in on him. It’s hard not to enjoy the lighthearted mood that is a signature of John Hughes’ movies.
2. Elf
Elf is a staple for the holidays, and will leave the entire family in stitches from laughing at Buddy’s adventures. There are jokes for everyone about what it would be like for one of Santa’s elves to be stranded in New York City. Don’t let the holidays go by without watching this modern holiday classic!
3.Nightmare before Christmas
For those who just can’t let go of Halloween, there‘s no need to with this movie. Get the best of both worlds with Jack Skellington as he brings the Christmas spirit to Halloweentown. Tim Burton’s quirky animated movie is a great, lighthearted choice for a night in.
4. Scrooged
Watch Bill Murray retell the age-old tale of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol as he acts as a TV executive and learns the same lessons Scrooge learned in the timeless novel. This is a great movie to bring the family together and get in the right mood for the holidays!
5. How the Grinch Stole Christmas
The whimsical world of Seuss comes alive in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Dive into the world of Whoville, and learn a lesson about the importance of spreading love this holiday season with the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who. Everyone may know the story but it never gets too old to revisit.
6. The Polar Express
At the time of its release, The Polar Express was extremely technologically advanced and it felt like we were just as part of the movie as the actual characters. Now the animation doesn’t look nearly as realistic and, if anything, is a little unnatural looking. Nonetheless, it is a great movie for people of all ages to enjoy about the holidays.
7. Eyes Wide Shut
Eyes Wide Shut one may seem a bit like the odd one out but it really breaks the mold of typical holiday films. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman play a married couple living in New York at Christmastime in a world of sex, secrecy, and gender issues in New York City. Just be sure not to watch it with kids since it is full of sexually explicit scenes.
