All The Ways Target Botched The Fallout 4 Nuka Cola Promotion

There was an obscene amount of excitement about Target and Jones Soda Co. teaming up to release a limited edition Nuka Cola Quantum to usher in the Fallout 4 era from Bethesda. Sadly the execution was botched beyond belief, and these are just a few of the ways things went south.

  • Despite the promotion being in-store only, many stores accepted online orders for the product, selling out before the doors were even opened. Needless to say, this pissed off those people who waiting in line outside of Target stores across the nation.
  • The facts that quantities were limited and that this was a limited promotion were known, but some stores got only 6 bottles of the stuff, with the largest stores only getting 24. That’s simply not enough, even for an item that is incredibly rare in-game.
  • Some store managers are reported to have reserved their stock for themselves and other employees, which was against the company policy, only to sell them on Ebay.
  • Can we mention that some stores only got 6 bottles? That’s lame af.
  • A number of locations allowed customers to purchase the entire stock if they were first in line.
  • Again, 6 fucking bottles for an entire store? Seriously. What the fuck?

This won’t hurt Target in the long run, but fans of the series are severely disappointed (myself included) that they weren’t able to start the game with an ice cold Nuka Cola Quantum in hand. There are rumors that Jones Soda Co. is willing to meet the demand of Target, so now the onus is on Target to get more supply for fans willing to spend a premium ($2.99/bottle) on the product.
This writer is disappointed, though not heartbroken. It would have been nice to be enjoying Nuka Cola Quantum while playing Fallout 4 for the first time (which, so far, looks amazing), but it is what it is. Target fucked up and the rest of us have to deal.
