Famous Jews often make awesome movies that become Blockbuster hits. Of course, not all famous Jews make great movies. For the most part, though, the following famous Jews have acted in some of the best classics that Hollywood has ever put out. Some of these famous Jews that make awesome movies include Barbra Streisand, Natalie Portman, Adam Sandler, Woody Allen, Harrison Ford, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tony Curtis, Dustin Hoffman, Scarlett Johansson, Ben Stiller, Adrien Brody, Jeff Goldblum, and Peter Sellers. Some of these famous Jews are no longer with us, but their cinema legacy lives on.
Barbra Streisand
Barbra Streisand is a famous Jew that got her start as a singer. She’s also an accomplished songwriter, producer, and actress. For over 60 years, she has given the world a long list of top rated performances on screen. Her most famous movies include Yentyl, Funny Girl, A Star is Born, and of course, Meet the Fockers, the sequel to Meet the Parents.
Natalie Portman
Famous Jew Natalie Portman is arguably one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. Her petite frame and delicate features belie her fierce loyalty and commitment to her Jewish heritage. Natalie was actually born in Jerusalem, and she remains close to her roots. She has starred in some amazing movies, including, Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Black Swan, Brothers, The Other Boleyn Girl, V for Vendetta, and of course, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
Adam Sandler
Adam Sandler is a famous Jew who has chosen a different path. Most of his movies are sophomoric attempts at potty humor. However, he has made one or two decent films that are worth seeing. These are Anger Management, Big Daddy.
Woody Allen
One of the greats of our time is a famous Jew who has actually been charged with child molestation. When Woody Allen took up intimate relations with one of the adopted daughters he and then-lover Mia Farrow parented, Mia quite understandably pressed charges. Woody then decided to marry the poor girl, perhaps in a bid to keep her quiet? (In this country, wives can say no to testifying against their husbands.) But who knows. Maybe the two are actually in love. Stranger things have happened. Meanwhile, we can enjoy Woody Allen’s awesome movies, like Midnight in Paris, Annie Hall, Manhattan, Hannah and Her Sisters, and more.
Harrison Ford
This famous Jew did a strange thing as well, in the love department. In 2010, at the ripe age of 68, he married beautiful Calista Flockhart, who is 22 years his junior. They went on to adopt a child together. Harrison Ford has starred in a long list of awesome movies, including Star Wars, the Indian Jones series, Blade Runner, What Lies Beneath, and a whole bunch more that we don’t have room to list here. We’re grateful that this famous Jew chose acting over carpentry, which was his first real profession.
Jake Gyllenhaal
We were as surprised as you might be to learn that Jake Gyllenhaal is Jewish. We loved him in Brothers, Brokeback Mountain, October Sky (especially October Sky!), and The Day After Tomorrow. Jake is still coming into his own in the acting world, in our opinion, but we’ll be keeping our eye on him!
Tony Curtis
The world lost a great actor when Tony Curtis passed away in 2010 at the age of 81. Not only did he entertain older generations, but his more recent awesome movies hit the soft spot for younger folks. This famous Jew’s hits included, The Mirror Crack’d, You Can’t Win ‘Em All, Rosemary’s Baby, Some Like it Hot, and a host of television series. Tony, the world misses you.
Dustin Hoffman
One of the most handsome famous Jews in Hollywood is Dustin Hoffman. Dustin has been a heartthrob since he stole every scene in The Graduate. He caught our attention in Kramer vs. Kramer, and made us laugh in Meet the Fockers. Dustin Hoffman isn’t afraid to laugh at himself because he’s a fine quality actor who has given us years of awesome movies and great entertainment. While he grew up in Los Angeles, his Jewish ancestors hail from Ukraine, Russia, Poland and Romania. We’re glad he’s here.
To Scarlett Johansson, Ben Stiller, Adrien Brody, Jeff Goldblum, Peter Sellers and all the other famous Jews in Hollywood, we say thank you for dedicating your life to entertaining us. These movie giants have made us laugh and cry. Life wouldn’t be the same without them.
