Final Batman v Superman Trailer is All About the Bat

DC Entertainment and Warner Bros have just released the final Batman v Superman trailer, and we’re given a deeper look into the conflict that will arise between the Caped Crusader and the Man of Steel. After Superman (Henry Cavill) having laid waste to Metropolis in his first film, it’s not unfair that Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) sees him as a threat: “He has the power to wipe out the entire human race. If we believe there is even a 1% chance that he is our enemy, we have to take it as an absolute certainty.” Gentlemen, take your corners.
While we know that Dawn of Justice will pit our heroes against each other, we also know that it will lead to an alliance that will likely span several films. Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) is also teased in the trailer, though it’s still unclear how prominently she will feature in the film.
Here’s the movie blurb from DC:

Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

While the trailer features a whole bunch of action, it all unfolds from Batman/Bruce Wayne’s perspective – Superman doesn’t even say a single thing. The reason for this seems clear: DC is unveiling their new Batman in a pre-existing Superman franchise universe, and they want to give Batman some exposure and room to breathe before the movie hits theaters. DC’s choice to not give Batman a stand-alone movie before pitting him against Superman may be the right move; after all, they need to play a serious game of catch-up if they want to contend with the juggernaut that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
On the other hand, DC may be unnecessarily rushing their universe, which may result in a quantity-over-quality scenario that plays poorly on screen. Fans may also feel that it’s too soon for another Batman; after all, it hasn’t been so long since the generally well-regarded Christopher Nolan/Christian Bale trilogy made its rounds. With that said, it’s wholly unfair to make assumptions about how Batman v Superman will appeal to fans before it hits theaters, and if the trailer is any indication, the movie will at least deliver on some  exciting action.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in theaters on March 25th, 2016.
