HBO has just released another Game of Thrones Season 6 teaser trailer, which hints at new mystery in the coming season. And death. It hints at a whole lot of death.
The ensemble cast returning for the new season includes Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Aidan Gillen (Petyr Baelish), Diana Rigg (Olenna Tyrell), Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark). Returning after a Season 5 hiatus is Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark), and Ian McShane has also been cast in an unkown role in the upcoming season.
Although the new trailer is rather obscure and doesn’t feature any upcoming scenes, nor dialogue we haven’t heard before, it still provides plenty of room for speculation. Jon Snow is featured rather prominently, which is unsurprising – he’s been used in plenty of promotional material for Season 6, which has given hope to legions of fans that we haven’t yet seen the last of Lord Commander Snow.
The other interesting tidbit is that we see the mounted faces of Arya and Sansa Stark, Tyrion, Cersei, and Jaime Lannister, and Daenerys Targaryen – all characters who were very much alive last we saw them. This is perhaps a subtle hint that no characters are safe in the coming season, and with the show now surpassing the books, it’s impossible to know who will live and who will die. In other words, some things never change.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO on Sunday, April 24th.
