As with all the cars in Forbes’ “Most Practical” list, the compact Ford Focus was named a “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It also received an average or better score for long-term reliability in the J.D. Power 2014 Vehicle Dependability Study. The Focus gets a combined city/highway gase mileage of 30 mpg with its 160-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The hatchback versions have a spacious 23.8 cubic feet of cargo space –which expands to 44.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat. The base price for the Ford Focus is $19,115.
