In your opinion, which country makes the best cars? Though it’s okay to mention American cars – for its good to be patriotic, or Italy – for we all love Italian cars, the fact of the matter is, there is so much that goes into judging which country makes the best autos. In essence, a car’s performance, its safety levels, fuel efficiency, speed, size and price are what determine its manufacturer’s credibility.
PERFORMANCE
In terms of performance, British cars such as Aston Martins and McLarens emerged as winners. According to research done by FindTheBest Company, a majority of British cars have a 400+ horsepower whereas German and American cars have an average of 300 hp. On the other hand, Swedish cars came in fourth with about 280 hp, followed by Italian, Japanese and Korean cars.
In terms of acceleration and speed, Italian cars topped the list. They were closely followed by British and German cars.
SAFETY
According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports, Swedish cars are the safest to drive. This is mainly due to their having adopted safety features that make it almost impossible for the driver or passengers to get involved in an accident, or get injured in case of one.
The cars’ safety was being measured in terms of rollover, side and frontal crashes. While American cars ranked fourth, Italian cars ranked last (probably due to their being small in size and having high speeds and acceleration).
FUEL EFFICIENCY
In this case, the cars’ fuel efficiency was being measured based on Environment Protection Agency’s (EPA) combined mpg figures (highway and city driving). Results showed that Japanese cars had the highest fuel efficiency rates followed by Korean and American cars.
Other factors used in deciding which country makes the best cars included:
- SIZE: Although American cars have the biggest sizes, Swedish cars have bigger seating capacities – nearly six seats per car.
- WEIGHT: In terms of curb weight, American cars are quite heavy (they have an average weight of 4,500 lbs). They are closely followed by Swedish, German and British cars.
- PRICE: Italian cars (the likes of Ferraris and Lamborghinis) are the most expensive, for they normally sell for approximately $400,000. Conversely, Korean, Japanese, American and Swedish cars are more affordable for their average retail price is by far less than $50,000.
Based on all of these factors, it’s clear that Sweden makes the best cars. Their cars (Saabs and Volvos) meet almost all of the qualities that every car buyer looks for – high performance, high levels of safety, enough seating capacity, perfect weight and affordability.
Though you may want to question all this, before you do, you need to remember that unlike other car manufacturing countries, Sweden has two car brands; Volvo and Saab – both of which are exceptionally good. Also, Sweden has the lowest number of traffic related accidents and deaths.
