Adam McKay, director and frequent Will Ferrell collaborator, was asked in an interview to tell viewers something they might not know about Ferrell. His answer? He has an extensive collection of tropical birds, valued at close to eight million dollars.
McKay is the director of films like Taldega Nights, Step Brothers, and Anchor Man. You may also remember him as “Dirty Mike”, the Prius-defiling hobo from The Other Guys.
He is also a friend of Will Ferrell, and according to him, Will’s house is like a scene out of Doctor Doolittle. He talked about how the grounds of Will’s property is covered in huge tropical bird cages, and you can often find Ferrell with a cockatiel perched on his shoulder for long periods of time.
Apparently, Ferrell has a pretty unique relationship with birds. He relayed to McKay that once, when he was a child, he saw his friend being attacked by an unkindness of ravens. That’s the proper term for a group of ravens by the way, I had to look it up. Wacky right? Anyway, leaving aside why this kid was being attacked by ravens (I’m assuming he upset the anti-Christ), Will Ferrel told McKay that he ran up to the scene and yelled “That’s enough!” Instead of turning on Will, the ravens apparently accepted his command and flew off.
So Will Ferrell seems to have some kind of weird power over birds, which seems like a hilarious premise for a movie. Will doesn’t like to shoot scenes with birds in them though. McKay relayed that he had once written a scene that included Ferrell’s Turkey Buzzard, Gregory, and Ferrell felt that it wasn’t right to exploit the birds to make money.
The more you watch the interview, the weirder it gets. Of course, given who we are talking about here, this may just be Will and Adam punking us. You can see the video and make up your mind here.
